Over the years many families left the rural areas around
Melin-y-Coed for lives in other parts of the country or other parts of the
world. Some descendants of Hugh Evans of Ty Brith Isaf (1770) went to the USA
via Llanaelhaearn.
December 2009 - enquiry from Pat Peedle:
I contacted you asking for information as above about my family.
At that time I could not get the connection past my GG Grandfather Elias Evans
& GG Grandmother Sarah who were according to the census born in Corwen
1802.
I have now through the Corwen Parish records gained the following
information, which may or may not connect with the Evans family from
Melin-y-coed.
Elias Evans was b 1802 Coed-y-fron, Corwen, he had the following
brothers
Edward Evans b 14th Nov 1785 Corwen
William Evans b 11th Apr 1788 Tre-r-Ddoll
Hugh Evans b 7th May 1790 Llangadog
John Evans b 3rd Sept 1792 Llangadog
Roderick Evans b 1798-dc1800
Roderick Evans b 29th Jan1800 Coed-y-fron Corwen
Their Parents were Edward Evans & Jane Edwards they were
married 9th May 1785 in Merionethshire
Edward Evans was b 20th Feb 1756 Dol Aberalwen, he had the
following siblings
John Evans b 7th Nov 1760 Tre-r-Ddoll
Thomas Evans b 12th Dec 1763 Tre-r-Ddoll
twins
Evan Evans b 28thFeb 1766 Clawdd Ponken
Catherine Evans
William Evans b 6 nov 1768 Clawdd Ponken
Evan Evans b 7th Nov 1771 Dol Aberalwen
Their parents were Thomas Evans & Jane Jones they were
Married 28th Apr 1755 in Dol Aberalwen
I think I have found Thomas b as 16th Apr 1732 parents Robert
David Evans & Margaret Davies they were married 31st Jan 1731
I then think that I have found a birth for Robert as 29th May
1708 parents John David Evans & Rachel at Carrog
Does this match/connect with any Evans families from
Melin-y-coed or can anyone help with any additional information please
Any help would be appreciated many thanks

THE EVANS FAMILY, DESCENDANTS OF MILLER ELLIS EVANS, MELIN Y GLYN
Trevor Evans of Spencerville, Ohio, would be glad to know of
anyone descended from or familiar with the descendants of Edward Evans born in
Ty Brith Isaf in 1734 who died in 1809. Edward married Lowri, and their
children were William, Evan, Elizabeth and Hugh. Trevor is descended from Hugh.
Mr and Mrs Trevor Evans on a trip to Wales
Hugh was born in Ty Brith Isaf in 1770 and married Ann. Their
child was called Ellis. Ellis was born in 1790, married Catherine (b. 1792),
and moved two or three miles north to Melin y Glyn. Their son David was born in
1813, married Margaret from Dwygyfylchi, and moved to Penmaenmawr. He died in
Penmaenmawr. His son Thomas David Evans, born in Penmaenmawr in 1854, moved to
Trefor, on the Lleyn peninsula(formerly Caernarvonshire, now known as Gwynedd,
North Wales).
Trevor has sent us some pictures, and says:
My father Thomas Ellis Evans was a stonecutter from the town of
Trefor in N. Wales. The Evans name came from the Llanrwst area. He often spoke
of that and said they were involved in running a mill (Melin y Glyn).
Above: Thomas Ellis Evans, Father of Trevor Evans.
My Grandfather was a stonecutter like my father. My Grandfather
left
Llanrwst and went to Penmaenmawr and from there to Trefor, as
there were granite quarries in both places.
Above: Jane Evans, sister of Thomas David Evans
John Lewis Evans, Brother of Trevor's father, Thomas Ellis
Evans.
I grew up in Red Granite Wisconsin and, as you can see by the
name, this town also had quarries.
Below: Trevor Evans ENCO TANK EN Fort Knox Kentucky 1954
Below: Trevor catches up with Army colleague Sam Pate while
visiting Texas. They served together in Germany in the 1950s. Trevor was called
back to active duty during the Korean war.
My Grandfather was Thomas David Evans and my father Thomas Ellis
Evans.
A sibling of my father was one Margaret Evans. She married a
Williams and their son Wilfred Williams had two sons, Meiron and Emlyn. Then
Meiron had a son and a daughter; these two went to Australia and the boy has
now been transferred to Spain. He is in the business of designing planes.
The Evanses of Llanrwst have many branches but I am only
familiar with some of that tribe.
In the Census under Melin y Glyn they are listed in the 1841,
1851,1861 etc. up to the 1901 census of my Grandfather in Llanaelhaearn. This
census lists the entire family including my father.
Many of my relatives are in the teaching profession from both
sides of the family. Years ago blacksmiths and farmers were dominant.
I was born in Cincinnati Ohio in 1921. Dad was cutting
"setts" there. He went to Wales with mother and then back to
Wisconsin where I grew up
Grace Evans, the sister of Thomas David Evans.
A MARITIME CONNECTION
In Llithfaen my uncle Richard Griffiths built, I believe, twelve
homes. He was a sea Captain and spent three and a half years in a Japanese
prison camp. His ship had been sunk by the Germans. His wife Jane tended to the
homes. He was my mothers brother. He went to sea as a boy, and was made Captain
at very young age. He was in World War 1 and World War 2. Two of his ships were
sunk during WW2 and he was a Japanese prisoner of war for three years. After
the war he went back to sea and was at sea a total of 54 years. He died in
Colwyn Bay.
THE SINKING OF THE WILLESDEN
The Willesden under "friendly" fire (American
markings, but plane from a German raider).
The Willesden bombed, shelled, and on fire.
Abandon Ship! Willesden torpedoed, lifeboat sinks, ship sinks.
THE SINKING OF THE TUSCANIA
Below: The cabin boy who saved a life
The above is a picture of my Dad, Thomas Ellis Evans, who served
in the First World War. It was taken when he was on the UK's BBC. Dad was
credited with saving the life of the other fellow, a Rev. Edwards, who wrote a
book and said that Dad saved him when he was a cabin boy on the Tuscania. The
ship was torpedoed and sunk off the coast of Ireland. I had sent Mother and Dad
back to Wales when they were in their 70's.
(The story of the Tuscania and pictures of the ship, sinking,
graveyards and survivors may be seen on the website http
://renton.50megs.com/Tuscania/
The Tuscania was a luxury liner requisitioned as a troop
carrier. February 5th, 1918, as it carried a numerous American soldiers, a
German U-boat sank the Tuscania in the North Sea. The wreck of the Tuscania was
sold in 1980. - Ed.)
On my mothers side, my grandfather (paternal side) was John
Roberts Griffiths; his father's name was Griffith Roberts so my mother was
Elizabeth Ann Griffiths.
A relative of mine by the name of Davies had a blacksmith's shop
at the road junction in Llanaelaelhaern. Years ago I passed by there in a bus
going to Colwyn Bay from Llithfaen.
Below: Mary Evans at rest in the shadow of Tre Ceiri (Yr Eifl,
The Rivals)
A cousin of mine from the Evans side is the headmistress in the
school there now, Sianelen Pleming nee Evans. Her father and mother were both
school teachers.
Sianelen's father Ioan Mai Evans was a headmaster in Nevin. His
father and my father were brothers.
Below: Ioan Mai Evans and his wife Gwen with newlyweds Sianelen
and Kelvin Pleming.
Ioan Mai Evans recently passed away aged 89 years
Kelvin Pleming is the Professor in a small college in North
Wales.
Gwen a was schoolteacher and is still in Llithfaen, where the
Plemings also live.
Above: Robert Evans, brother of Thomas Evans.
I recently found 75 new-to-me relatives on my mothers side
(Davies, Jones). I have put them in my pedigree program. One man went to
California, Robert Henry Jones, a Dr. of Theology with six children. His mother
and my grandmother were sisters (Davies).
Below: Wilfred Williams, the son of Margaret Evans, the sister
of Trevor's father.
Wilf is my first cousin; his mother is Margaret Evans, sister to
my father. Wilf's father was a Williams related to Mary Williams, our
grandmother, so that is a case of intermarriage. However, I know of no other in
my family either side. Wilf married Maud from Carmel but I do not believe it is
the same Carmel you speak of.
Above: Wilfred, son of Margaret Evans, with Maud.
Maud is now gone but Wilf is in a home in Bangor. They had two
boys, Emlyn Williams, an Engineer, and Meiron Williams, a Chemist retired from
the British Nuclear Energy Program. Maud and Wilf made five trips to my home in
Ohio and Vermont. He traveled over most of this country. Wilf worked as a
Superintendent in a machine works for Hawker--Siddeley. He then had his own
business called the Craftsman near Caernarvon Castle.
In the search for family connections, Trevor contacted Helen
Jane Williams, who was able to help him with information about a Nanhoron
connection to the Williams and Edwards families through Mary Williams.

State University studying to become a lawyer.

Hi, we have ancestors in common, I am also descended from Elian Evans. I'm sure you have long solved this but I managed to go back from Elias to Owen Evans and from there picked up a trail on wikitree going all the way back to 210AD. Here is a link to my family tree. https://www.ancestry.co.uk/family-tree/pt/RSVP.aspx?dat=NDM3MjcxOTs7MDE0YmVkMzEtMDAwMS0wMDAwLTAwMDAtMDAwMDAwMDAwMDAwOzIwMjAxMDI5MTU0NjA5OzMyNzY5&mac=ETsJksXgv6U9w7YH+9sJ2w==
