WELCOME! CROESO!

This page is dedicated to the past and present of the village of Melin Y Coed in the Conwy Valley.

It will initially feature information and images compiled and presented on a previously active website about Melin Y Coed, more information will then get added as we go along.

Comments and contributions are welcome but please be patient: the page is in the early stages of construction and a work in progress - please bear with us while we work on it in our spare time.

Thank you. Diolch!

hello Hogan Kit, thank you for your comments - nice to hear from you.
We are neighbours of Ken in Melin Y Coed and he asked us a little while ago to put the content he had saved from the previous website back online. I admit it is a very slow and tedious process and we have not managed to do as much as we would have liked so far (including fixing the issue with the photos). If you would like to help or discuss anything about it probably easiest to email me at kapaprod@gmail.com. Hope to hear from you!

Hello,
I'm so very glad you have this blog spot set up, as I used to peruse the Melin Y Coed website often and missed it when it was gone.
I've family connections up and down Nant Conwy, so M-Y-C held enormous interest for me, especially to uncover clues to solve a family mystery and possible connections in Patagonia, also New Zealand.
Diolch/thank you for setting up again. I look forward to finding more information as time progresses.

Hi, My name is Janet Jellicoe.
My son Sam is researching our family tree. My Grandfather was John Evan Roberts , he lived with his parents at Ysgoldy, Melin y Coed. His father was William Roberts. I believe he worked as a gamekeeper. They lost a small child who I believe drowned at Ysgoldy in a well. The family later lived zt Bod Wilym. I would be very grateful for any information or pictures regarding my family. Kind regards Janet

Janet, hi from a distant relative the other side of the world.
May I suggest you send the blog owner your email address so you can receive what information we have privately. We are also contacting another, closer relative on your behalf, and your email address would be helpful. All the best to Sam in his search. Katie's daughter, Hogan Kit.

Hi Lynne; how lovely you have found ladyK's blog. I too was surprised and amazed when I came across it. The owner of the previous MYC site, Ken B. who retired to MYC, passed most of the information on to her before he passed away, but the photos are a problem. So every now and then when the wind is in the right direction I send a swag of the old photos from here down under to LadyK for her to do what she can with them. I used to call myself the WebFairy on the MYC site, I think, back then. I call myself Hogan Kit now; if you still have your Welsh you know what that is!

Hello Janet, I heard about the gatekeepers of MyC, did your great-grandfather live in the Melyn Cottage (Cyffdy Cottages) as it was know by the older generation?

Hi all,

Sam, Janet Jellicoe's son here. William Roberts (b. abt. 1853) was originally from Gwytherin we think, and then moved to Ysgoldy, Melin-y-Coed and then Bod Wilym. I am not sure if if he lived in the Melyn Cottage. He was a Gamekeeper under someone called Mr Moulsdale (saw this in a newspaper article).

We don't who William's Dad was because we can't find his and Margarets (b. 1866) wedding record. There seems to be some confusion as to whether they were married in 1884 or 1887 I ordered the 1884 wedding certificate, which turned out to be incorrect, as the DoB's were wrong, so must have been 1887. I can't find the 1887 one. We think his Dad is Cadwaldr Roberts due to Thrulines on Ancestry.

I will forward my mothers and my own email address to the blog owner now. Thank you.

Kind regards, Sam
