Tyddyn Gabriel

RESIDENTS OF TYDDYN GABRIEL 1841 and 1871 - 1901

In the year 1841 the residents of Tyddyn Gabriel were Robert Thomas (60), Jane Thomas (46) and Jane (13).

In 1851 Widow Jane Jones, 56, farmed 5 acres at Tyddyn Gabriel with Jane, 23, her daughter, helping at home. Both came from Llanrwst.

In 1871 Jane Thomas, as a 40 year old spinster, was farming 4 acres, as she was ten years later in 1881.

By 1891 Tyddyn Gabriel was home to Daniel Jones, 51, a quarry labourer from Llanelian, and his wife Catherine, 42, from Llangerniew. Their two year old son, John E, had been born in Melinycoed. Daniel's father, widower John Jones, aged 75, originally from Llanfairtalhaiarn, was living with his son Daniel, as also were his cousins John Roberts, 28, and William Roberts, 20, both Quarry Labourers born in Llanelian.

In 1901 Daniel was 40 and working as a miner in a lead mine. His wife was 52 and their son, John E, now 12, was attending school. Also living with them was widower Edward Jones, 45, from Montgomeryshire, also a miner in a lead mine.
